Enrichment

Enrichment

There’s more to life in the Sixth Form than just gaining qualifications.

We want students to achieve their potential and flourish inside and outside the classroom. Whether students are thinking of going straight to university or full-time employment after the Sixth Form, we recognise the importance of making them stand out from the crowd.

That’s why we have a wide range of exciting enrichment activities to uncover hidden talents and develop new skills.  Activities have included:

  • AfriDACA - visit an Uganda to deliver sports workshops and literacy and numeracy skills to street children
  • Annual ski and snowboarding trip
  • Music and dramatic productions
  • Volunteering and work experience placements
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award - Bronze, Silver and Gold
  • Sports Leader and Sports Ambassador
  • Student bands
  • Subject specialist UK and foreign visits (e.g London, Amsterdam, New York, Paris, Germany, Poland, Uganda, Kenya, Barcelona and Italy

Career Ready

Career ready is an educational charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people and provide them with the real-life skills and knowledge they need for work. It involves a structured programme of masterclasses, workplace visits and mentoring, including a four - six week paid internship.

The Bridge

The Bridge is a unique business centre housed within Darwen Aldridge Community Academy consisting of 11 office pods which provide flexible, modern workspace for businesses to support their set up or growth. Students in the Sixth Form can access support which takes them through the business start-up journey from idea generation through market research, finance and marketing to customer service. Students can use their enrichment time to start and run their business.

#startwhileyoustudy

The Bridge has helped me immensely with starting my business from the ground up and offers continuous support. They helped me with my business plan, connect with other business owners for advice and guidance and get my business up and running.
