Premier League Inspires International Mens Day event

Premier League Inspires International Mens Day event

Yesterday we took a group of 8 Year 10 students to Everton FC to celebrate International Men's Day. In main the event was a six aside tournament, alongside some workshops and guest speakers who aimed to raise awareness for men's mental health and wanted to challenge the idea of toxic masculinity.

The boys represent both DACA and Blackburn Rovers Football Club Community Trust during the tournament and displayed excellent skills and resilience throughout the tournament.

They played Liverpool, Manchester City and Wigan Athletic in the group stages, winning every game!
  • BRFC vs Liverpool  3-2
  • BRFC vs Man City  4-0
  • BRFC vs Wigan  3-0

This ensured they topped the group and they went through to the semi-final where they played against Manchester United. The game was tight and the lads worked hard, but they couldn't secure that game winning goal! The match was decided on penalties: Oscar stepped up and bagged the first penalty with ease and keeper Arran made a phenomenal save to earn us a place in the final.

The final was BRFC vs Bolton, both teams had performed impeccably throughout the tournament. The game was tough and there were some questionable decisions made by the referee. Despite this the lads battled on, but again couldn't convert any of their shots on target to goals! The game ended 3-0 to Bolton and the lads were devastated! However, they carried the defeat with grace despite their disappointment at finishing as runners up! We are super proud of their achievements and effort yesterday!
