Aims of our curriculum

Aims of our curriculum

At Darwen Aldridge Community Academy, we want every student to have agency over their futures and transform their lives through a stimulating, enriching and enjoyable education. Students will reach their goals by becoming expert learners, gaining a deep understanding of a range of subjects through our progressive and exciting curriculum.

To achieve this aim and support the 6 entrepreneurial attributes of the Aldridge Foundation, our curriculum:

  • Sequences learning so that learning takes place in an ordered, efficient and effective way.
  • Identifies the core knowledge and skills that comprise our subjects and supports the teaching, learning and assessment of these areas.
  • Develops vocabulary and literacy to support accessibility to the curriculum and develop a positive culture for reading.
  • Provides opportunities to develop cultural capital so that learning is brought to life, can be contextualised and has relevance to our students.
  • Promotes a love of learning so that students develop a passion for knowledge beyond the classroom.
  • Promotes independent learning, teamwork and problem solving so that students take responsibility for their learning, are conscientious, risk taking and determined to achieve whether individually or as part of as group.
  • Encourages creativity by enabling access to arts, technology and PE at all key stages.
  • Guides students to reach their full potential through an ambitious careers offer, inclusive of work experience opportunities, extra-curricular offers and drop-down days.
  • Encourages tolerance, sensitivity and responsibility through a programme of pastoral education inclusive of RSE, SMSC, PSHE and BV curricula supporting their understanding of their place, function and responsibilities within their regional and global communities.
