WHAT IS BTEC SPORT?

A practical vocational qualification worth two A-Levels for students who enjoy sport and physical activity. This course develops knowledge of anatomy, physiology and fitness. You will also study careers in the sports industry and business in sport.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY BTEC SPORT?

If you are thinking about taking a university course in sport, physical education, sports science, sports leadership, coaching, sports development or health and fitness, then this course will prove very useful to you. For students seeking employment immediately after their sixth form studies, your knowledge and understanding of sport and the sports industry will certainly be relevant in pursuit of careers within the sports development, leisure, coaching and fitness sectors. The qualification will also provide you with a strong foundation for further specialist training such as qualifying as a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will study a wide range of topics including anatomy and physiology, sports coaching, fitness, sport as a business and careers in the sports industry.

HOW IS BTEC SPORT ASSESSED?

BTEC sport is assessed through three external examinations in anatomy and physiology, health, fitness and wellbeing and business in the sports industry. In addition to the external examinations you will complete a further six coursework units. The three examinations equate to 45% of your final grade for BTEC Sport.

WHAT CAN I STUDY WITH BTEC SPORT?

You can combine BTEC Sport with any other single BTEC or A level qualifications. Qualifications which complement the BTEC Sport programme include A level psychology, A level business, A level biology or applied science and BTEC public services.

WHERE DOES A QUALIFICATION IN BTEC SPORT LEAD?

This course will enable you to secure a university place on a sports related degree qualification or allow you to seek direct employment in the sport and leisure industry.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

At least 5 GCSEs grades 9-5, including English and science.
