1: THE JOURNEY
Absolutely brilliant...UNTIL, 8.33am when the windscreen wipers broke during a torrential downpour. After 2.5 hours sat by the motorway, we were escorted to a garage by the police. We then had to wait a further 3.5 hours in the garage canteen whilst the coach was being repaired. We eventually arrived in Pila with 29 hour, 33 minutes and 22 seconds on the clock. Despite all the delays the students were absolutely fantastic and received many positive comments from the Inter Ski Drivers and Staff. They were also cheered up by the free dinner provided at the rest stop. Despite everything we still sorted out our boots, skis, poles and ski wear before our fantastic three course meal in a local Pizzeria. The day concluded with a short briefing from the ski rep and everyone tucked up in bed by midnight.

2:WAKEY-WAKEY
Alarm clocks and door knocks began at 6.55am and everyone was down for breakfast by 7.30am. A great breakfast of cereals, croissants, fruits, yoghurts and fruit juices were devoured by all ahead of the challenge of the day. The coach departed the hotel by 8.25am and we were all kitted up and on the gondola (cable car) by 9.15am.

3: GROUPS
Girls beginners skiers with Miss Entwistle - the instructor commented that the girls were the best beginners group that he had seen on their first day. Early promise was shown by Khushna Sulaman-Butt and Tobryn Prior who looked like naturals.

Boys Beginners Skiers- Jack Ormerod shone on his first day and was promoted to a higher group by lunch time. Reece Lowery, Max Sweeney and Cameron Gibbons all did exceptionally well on their first day.

Beginner Borders - all of our beginner borders did really well on their first day. There were a few mini-wipeouts, which is always fun and the students can't wait to hit the slopes again tomorrow.

Intermediate Skiers with Mr Worthington - This group took the lead today as many of the students knew the piste like the back of their hands. They had a great laugh with Matt the instructor. Joseph Kent was the favourite for the first fall and he didn't fail to disappoint when he took a tumble on the first slope. However, Christian Holt, who spent the whole morning explaining to the instructor how good he is took the limelight away. He did manage to overtake the whole group, however this was not on his skis but on his back as he took a major wipeout (no injuries mum). James Parker Thompson did particularly well with his fearless exploits, attempting a half pipe at speed and getting a face full of snow in the process. Holly Ballentyne who is the only girl in the group kept all the lads in line (even with no voice), she has picked up where she left off last year and has excellent skills. Can't wait for tomorrow.

Intermediate Borders with Mr Pearson - All the students in this group came on the trip last year and like the intermediate skiers were directing traffic on the piste. They have an excellent instructor this year who has worked hard on improving their technique. Charlie Stacey took the honorary 'WIPE OUT' t-shirt and luckily hand camera man Mr Loughran managed to capture the footage. All of this commented on just how good of a day they had today. As agreed we got a full extra hour of skiing compared with last year and at the end of the day we all returned back to the hotel tired but very happy.

4: PIZZA NIGHT - All students and staff went to a fantastic Pizzeria for unlimited Pizza night. Tobryn Prior ate the worlds strangest pizza (without any cheese),Nick Harrop thinks that he managed 16 slices and Khushna had an Aubergine pizza all to herself. All of the students were excellent yet again. After all the food we took a gentle walk through Aosta and took a team photo under a roman arch way. Hotel chill out time began at 9.30pm and lights out was 11.30pm. Bring it on tomorrow.

A good start, everyone up for breakfast at 7.30. We arrived on the slopes at 9.00 for a prompt start at 9.30.

Wipeout.
Christian Holt sported the wipeout t-shirt for his triple salco down the piste. In the afternoon the wipeout t-shirt was passed onto Joesph Kent after he lost control on a bend and face planted into the snow. Tommorow James Parker Thompson will have the pleasure of wearing the t-shirt as he crashed into the ski lift barrier, luckily James escaped without a scratch!

The Morning.
In the intermediate ski group, James Parker Thompson took Mr Worthington out on the slopes, who is now facing a weeks worth out detentions when we return back to school.
All the intermediate skiiers have improved rapidly and showed off their skills on the red slopes.
The beginer ski group were caught on camera flying the clue slopes perfecting the turns.

The Afternoon.
Valerie Thomas crashed into a stationary Miss Entwistle resulting in a two man pile up.
The advanced borders enjoyed the fact that there was a light dusting of powder snow over night.
Ellie Kershaw in the beginers group managed to get her ski pole wedged in the door of the gondola on our return to ski hire.

The Evening.
We arrived at the restaurant at 6.30 for a fantastic three course meal.
For our apres ski for the night we then made our way to Courmayeur. To join six other schools for a late night rave. DACA, once again tore up the dance floor with exceptional moves from Valerie Thomas and Amber Gemmel. Even the DACA staff performed a top class version of the macarana. We then arrived back to the hotel at 11oclock for an early night.

ski day three:
Well, what a day, the storm that travelled down France hit the Alps dumping 12cm on Aosta and putting all DACA boarders and skiers in the most testing of blizzard and white-out conditions. However, with trademark positive attitude, everyone got out, got up (fell down occasionally)and made great progeress in good spirit.

The wipe out teashirt for the morning was taken by James Parker Thompson due to his expolits the previous day. In the morning Bradley Stewart did a fantastic front flip on the cresta run on red run, earning the coveted yellow wipe out Jersey for the afternoon!

Valerie Thomas and Amber Gemmill had extra 1:1 tuition from a young handsome ski instructor and amazingly made great progression, to rejoin their group on Friday.

The beginner snowboarders Zak, Hannah and Will have made massive progress and are boarding solo, comfortably in their group on the slopes. Their instructor commented he is amazed at their progress. Zak cheekily threw a snowball at Mr Loughran while he was being filmed, Mr loughran however now has the video evidence!

As the day progressed, the blizzard got more intense and the fresh powder gave greater challenge, but more fun. Pistes felt like off pistes and everyone adapted technique to continue to improve - this will be evident when conditions improve for the last two days - we hope!

Apres Ski - Ice Skating. We went to the Aosta Ice Arena and as always, those who had been the Blackburn Arena excelled. Christian Holt performed his moon walking reverse, Zak entertained the ski reps with his 'Dynamo' style card tricks. Reece Lowery excelled on the ice, and after a quiet start, Tobryn shone for the girls! Everyone enjoyed the ice skating and weary but feeling great after a monumental day, we returned to the hotel at 11pm. Curfew at 11-30, looking forward to ski-ing the fresh snow the next two days, bring it on.....

SKI DAY 4
THE MOURING: The penultimate day started without a hitch with all students down for breakfast at 7:30am. We arrived at the bottom of the mountain at 8:30am to find that the mountain was temporarily closed due to a severe bout of wind! By 9:30am the gondalas where in full swing allowing us to arrive on the mountain for a 10:00am start. The good news was that the pistes were relatively quiet, however, some of the ski lifts were closed due to the high winds doubling the queing time at the lifts that were open.
THE AFTERNOON: In the afternoon all groups were challenged due to the harsh weather conditions. Khushna Sulaman-Butt started the afternoon off with a bang by falling face first when attempting to get off the ski lift. The intermediate group braved the steep red slopes with only Brad Stuart, Tom Lawrence and Nick Harop staying firmly on their feet.
THE EVENING: Tonight we had our presentation evening were we were awarded levelled certificates by our ski instructors. Amber Gemmell was awarded most improved skier of the week with Nicole Bury taking the award for having the most positive attitude. Zak Hargreaves won an award for his determination and ability to entertain the interski reps with his magical skills. Last but not least the best wipeout award was given to Joe Kent for his epic fall 50 meters down a red run earlier in the week. Everyone tucked up in bed by 11:00pm for an even earlier start in the morning. Looking forward to coming home but not looking forward to the long journey!
