During the 29th & 30th March 2012 nearly 500 of Darwen Aldridge Community Academy students embarked upon our 1st ever volunteering event. Students spent the 2 days working with local volunteers, councillors and residents from the immediate areas of Blackburn and Darwen to make small but significant contributions to improving the community for all.

Students took part in musical performances, gardening projects, teaching IT skills, litter clearing, building sculptures in Sunnyhurst woods, conservational audits of wildlife and habitats and completing a changing room style activity at Darwen Subscription bowling club. The physical impact upon the local areas was impressive to see, but even more impressive than this was the emotional and social impact that the work students did had on the community.

Many of the local residents and councillors have expressed their gratitude for the involvement of the students along with commending our students for their community spirit. It has made me very proud to be a member of the Darwen Aldridge Community Academy community and to have spent time students who have shown themselves in the very best possible light. I would like to take this opportunity to thank students and all the Staff that took part.
