Mr Loughran, Principal of Darwen Aldridge Community Academy
Brendan Loughran is Principal of Darwen Aldridge Community Academy. He was appointed in January 2007 as Principal Designate to establish one of the country’s first wave of sponsored Academies and has been Principal of the Academy since it opened in September 2008. Since then, the Academy has gone from strength to strength, been judged good in every respect by Ofsted in 2013 and gained in popularity, demonstrated by rapid growth from 735 students in 2008 to 1320 students in 2015.
In the five years previously, He was Headteacher at Westhoughton High School, a Specialist Technology College in Bolton. He led this school through a period of great change and improvement including the acquisition of specialist school status, a successful Ofsted inspection, developing a community outreach programme and significantly improving academic results. This record of success was the firm foundation upon which he and his team have transformed education provision and outcomes in Darwen and an offer that reaches out to the whole community.
He has worked in education in the north-west of England for 30 years, including teaching in schools in Knowsley, Trafford and East Lancashire.
