A group of twelve year 9 students went on a reward trip to “The Bing Bang” festival in Liverpool in July. The reward trip was earned due to outstanding effort, attainment and improvement in their GCSE Science lessons. The students were wonderful role models for the school and took part in a variety of experiments and demonstrations. Last week Year 7 had a visit by one of Lancashire's leading author: Joseph Delaney. Joseph spoke to the students about his novels and his achievements; inspiring our students to want to read and write. Many students bought Joseph's most recent book 'Aberrations' and we hope they thoroughly enjoy reading it over summer.
Some of our best behaved and motivated students from Year 7 & 8 were chosen last week to take part in a drama based activity by an outside company SPLATs. The students enjoyed activities such as: mask making, circus skills and performing A Midsummer Night's Dream. Parents were invited in to watch this performance and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.

On July 1st 2018, the 102nd anniversary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme, the grand unveiling of a unique memorial to the fallen of the First World War took place in Darwen Cemetery. Eight years ago the Friends of Darwen Cemetery began work on an idea to commemorate the lives of men buried in the cemetery, more than 70 men from Darwen and beyond, who died in service during the 1914-1918 war. The year 7 team came third in the rounder’s tournament last night. They beat Our Ladys, St Bedes and Pleckgate. They unfortunately got beat by two rounds against St Wilfrids in the semi-finals. They were absolutely fantastic, a real credit to the Academy.
