Manchester Uni Day Out

On Tuesday 11th of March, Year 12 and 13 Sociology and RE students attended a star lecture at Manchester’s Institute for Science, Ethics and Innovation at Manchester University. The lecture was presented by Philosopher John Harris; Lord Alliance Professor of Bioethics. Professor Harris is the author/editor of 20 books and over 300 papers and has many years’ experience as an innovator in the debate about the moral and legal issues involved in health and healthcare. The lecture investigated the challenges posed by a dire shortage of donor organs and tissue for transplantation, both in the UK and globally. All the students who attended the lecture found the debate very interesting and it developed the thinking tools required to help with their A levels. However, the question still reminds; should we donate organs after death - or even while we are alive?
