Yr 9 GCSE French Trip to Standish Language College

In January Yr 9 GCSE students visited Standish International College. There they engaged in a virtual shopping experience in  French learning key transactional vocabulary all conducted in a real ‘European Street’ context. Activities ranged from going through Passport Control to changing Euros to writing actual postcards in French to relatives/friends.  Risk-taking and determination were to the fore as pupils tackled new situations in a ‘foreign’ environment. The various shopping scenarios were then presented using latest software in the computer suite.

Year 8 Pupils Visit Manchester University for Language Tasters and University Awareness Day

At the end of January Year 8 French students visited Manchester University to explore the benefits of pursuing their studies in Modern Languages. They were able to complete tasks linked to identifying the many career opportunities open to language graduates/students. They engaged with current Language University graduates who explained what is involved in undertaking a Languages Degree. In particular our students learnt all about what is involved in studying abroad. A tour around the Manchester University campus finished off the day leaving many DACA students eager to return to University as soon as possible .

Year 9 Pupils Visit UCLAN  for Language Tasters and University Awareness Day

In October 2012 , Year 9 pupils visited UCLAN in Preston to engage in a Languages Day. Pupils were able to ask questions to University Language students who recounted their experiences in their year-abroad. At lunch time , pupils were able to sample food /drinks specialities  from all countries in Europe. 2 pupils , Jasper Harris and Megan Matthews were interviewed for the University radio and local Lancashire newspapers. A tour round the University rounded off an excellent experience for Year 9 students of languages.
