DACA EUROPEAN EXCHANGE PROGRAMME
As part of Darwen Aldridge Community Academy’s successful bid to join the European Comenius School Exchange Programme, 20 pupils from Year 8 & 9 and 3 teachers went to Paris to stay with their French Exchange pupils and teachers. Pupils flew from Manchester to Paris on December 1st returning 5 days later . Pupils language skills benefited greatly from being hosted by French families and all were able to sample French cooking and way of life.
One highlight was the ascent of the Eifel Tower whilst the snow shrouded Paris – a beautiful scene closely matched by some of the paintings pupils saw at the Louvre later. Another high point was the pupils being able to create a rock band at the Cite de la Musique in Paris and later when pupils were able to sing at the European Concert .
Pupils from DACA and DACA’s exchange school , College Joliot Curie,Paris, were joined in Paris by DACA’s other partner schools involved in the Euopean Exchange Programme – Abbey Middle School,Pershore,Worcester, and City of Hyvinkää Taurus Vehmaa school (near Helsinki), Finland.
Watch this space as all these schools together with DACA’s exchange partner school from Spain will be hosted here at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy in March. In May 2011 , DACA will send pupils and staff to our partner school in Finland and in Autumn 2011 pupils and staff will go to Spain for a cultural exchange as DACA goes truly international.
