Best-selling author gives Darwen pupils world exclusive reading
On 5th July, we were lucky enough to be visited by the best-selling children’s author, Anthony Horowitz, who was the guest of honour for the official opening of our Learning Resource Centre. Anthony toured the Academy with two year 7 students, and then treated us to a world exclusive reading from his new Sherlock Holmes novel. He then gave a fantastic talk to students, staff and primary schools pupils, followed by a question and answer session. He then signed books for students and staff.
He proved to be both entertaining and inspirational to everyone who attended. He read an extract from his new Sherlock Holmes novel, “The House of Silk”, which was a world exclusive for the Academy as no-one had read it with the exception of his publishers.
Mr Horowitz spoke about the importance and enjoyment of reading and how it improved literacy. He also made a point of discussing how you should never give up on anything that you’re passionate about and that you need to be determined to keep chasing your dreams in order to make them a reality. Mr Horowitz mentioned that he thought that the Academy was inspirational and that it may turn up in one of his books in the future. He was very impressed by the interesting questions he was asked by students and took the time to answer them in depth. After his talk, Mr Horowitz made himself available to sign books and posters and to chat to students and staff. A fantastic day was had by all.
