Students at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy are celebrating another year of record breaking A Level results, achieving the best A Level results in its history. The 2015 A Level pass rate and vocational equivalent pass rate at the academy are both at 100%. In terms of A Level results only, academy students achieved new record results of 26% A*/A grades and 50% A*/A/B grades.
Academy Principal Brendan Loughran said: ‘We are delighted with the achievements of our sixth form students and they deserve this reward of excellent exam results for their hard work and determination. Against a background of increasing rigour to A Level courses and examinations, we have more students than ever before gaining the highest grades. It is particularly pleasing to see an increase in the number of A* grades at A Level, when to achieve this, students are required to achieve scores of over 90% across their exams’.
He added: ‘Great credit must also go to the academy staff who have supported the students to achieve these results. Our success is in-part based on the fact that we set challenging and stretching targets for every student in each of the subjects they study and this year, well over 60% of our students’ results are exceeding their individual targets’.
Head of the academy’s Sixth Form Howard McWilliam said: ‘These are our best ever results and we have a new record-high number of students from DACA applying to study at university. The indications from the results are that it is highly likely that all of our students will secure their first choice of a place at university. We now have a proven track record in helping students who want to go to university, to achieve their aim. We have seen improved results across the whole curriculum and it is worth noting that due to the exceptionally high standards and excellent results achieved in subjects like Art, DACA students are securing university places on degree courses without the need to complete a foundation year of study’.
